Solana Beach man, 46, killed and killed on I-5 in Encinitas

A driver hit and killed a 46-year-old man on Solana Beach late Sunday night as the victim was walking on Highway 5 in Encinitas, according to a California highway patrol.

The accident happened around 11:50 p.m. on the northern I-5 driveway of Santa Fe Drive, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol Hunter Gerber said in a press release.

The victim, whose name was not released, was walking in the second lane on the left when he was hit by a Grand Cherokee jeep, Gerber said. He died on the spot.

The driver of the jeep, a 50-year-old man from the Los Angeles County, remained at the scene of the accident and was not injured in the accident, Gerber said. Investigators do not believe he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
