The success of the amateur athlete was achieved at the 2021 Intermountain Healthcare Ironman World Championship, presented by the Utah Sports Commission. The event, historically held in Hawaii, came to St. George, Utah,’s publication 2021 after more than two years of waiting for COVID-19, and will return to Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, this October for the 2022 edition.
Between the ages of 18-79, more than 2,800 athletes walked the starting line representing more than 80 countries, regions and territories to compete in the world-famous event.
Dunkle, 55, finished the event in 11:46:26 (swimming: 57:15; cycling: 6:01:57; run: 4:37:46), beating the top players in their team. The race covered the 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swimming course at the ROKA swimming course at Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane, Utah, followed by the 112-mile (180.2 km) FulGaz Cycling Course which led the player incredibly. desert scenery with 7,374 feet of elevation and unforgettable climb through the 100-mile Snow Region Snow Park. The 26.2-mile (42.2 km) HOKA Run Course took athletes in two laps through St. George with 1,413 feet (431 meters) climbing before ending up with an unforgettable experience in downtown St. Louis.
