The incumbents in the Encinitas district race, Viskanta has taken the lead in San Dieguito’s District 1
In the Encinitas Union School District, six candidates vied for three seats, and so far the three incumbents, Emily Andrade, Marla Strich and Raquel Pfeifer, are leading the early votes. Challenger Andre Johnson is fourth behind.
Andrade, a former district director for 17 years, has served on the school board for the past 12 years and currently serves as president. Strich is a longtime board member, having served the district for 24 years since 1998.
Pfeifer, was appointed trustee in August, taking over the seat from trustee Gregg Sonken, who died in June. She is a product of the Encinitas Union School, district and mother of two children in the district.
The Encinitas Union School District serves the city of Encinitas and the Rancho La Costa area of south Carlsbad in North San Diego County. Approximately 5,400 students from kindergarten through sixth grade are enrolled in the district’s nine schools.
In Area 1 of the San Dieguito Union High School District, representing Encinitas, Rimga Viskanta has a huge lead over David Carattini. The new trustee will fill the seat vacated by President Mo Muir.
Viskanta previously served on the board of directors for the Encinitas Union School District until 2020. She is the parent of a seventh grader from Oak Crest Middle School and two graduate students from San Dieguito Academy. She is currently the Senior Management Analyst for the City of Solana Beach.
In San Dieguito’s Area 5, a close race is unfolding between Phan Anderson and acting trustee Julie Bronstein, with Anderson taking the lead on early returns. Area 5 represents the communities of Pacific Highlands Ranch and Carmel Valley.
In the Trustee Area 3 of San Dieguito, Jane Lea Smith prevailed with a clear lead over Sheila King. The new trustee will fill the seat vacated by Melisse Mossy’s resignation and will represent the communities of Cardiff, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar and Rancho Santa Fe.
Smith, a Del Mar resident, is currently the vice president of administration for the Canyon Crest Academy Foundation. She is a former special education teacher and school administrator.
