ENCINITAS (CNS) – Sheriff’s officials say a pedestrian was struck and killed by a car Sunday on Pacific Highway in Encinitas.
Just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s North Coastal Office and crews from the Encinitas Fire Department responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Highway 101 in Encinitas Boulevard, Sgt. Jeremy Collis said.
“A car was driving westbound on Encinitas Boulevard approaching the Coastal 101 Freeway when a man was walking northbound across Encinitas Boulevard,” Collis said. “The vehicle struck the man and continued westbound on B-B Street and fled the area.”
The man was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries and later died.
The vehicle was described as a dark-colored sedan or sedan, possibly a Chrysler or Dodge, with damage to the front driver’s side, the sergeant said.
