Pedestrian, 79, dies after being hit by pickup in Encinitas
A 79-year-old man was killed Monday morning as he was crossing a street in Encinitas and was hit by a pickup truck, sheriff officials said.
The man, whose name has not been released, was crossing Encinitas Boulevard, west of El Camino Real, just before 6 a.m. when he was shot, according to the sheriff’s sergeant. Rob Siegfried.
Encinitas Fire Department officials and paramedics responded to the scene and found the injured man lying on the road, Siegfried said in a press release. They tried life-saving measures, but the man died on the spot.
The pickup driver was not injured.
Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the incident, Siegfried said.
The North Coast Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
