The Italian group meets to cook on Fridays
The North County Italian Association has its annual Paste e fagiole cookout at 5:30 p.m. Friday, January 20 at the Episcopal Church of St. Michael Edy Hall. An art exhibit, titled “Exploring the Coast-to-Crest Trail” is on view through January 25 at the Dove, Library, 1775 Dove Lane. The exhibit features 20 works by Carmel Valley artist Sue Britt. Britt calls the pieces “Paper Tapestry,” in which she weaves stories out of paper. Dove Library is open from 10 a.m. at 7 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 1775 Dove Lane. The genetic genealogist makes the presentation on Saturday
“Endogamy Explained” will be presented in hybrid format by genetic genealogist Kathleen Fernandez at the North San Diego County Genealogical Society 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Georgina Cole Library, 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive. Fernandez will explain how to deal with endogamy (the practice of intermarriage in a limited group over many generations) in genealogical research. Social time is at 12:30pm. Volunteers were sought at The Flower Fields
Carlsbad Fields of Flowers offers volunteer opportunities, such as giving walking tours for elementary school children. Duties include greeting classes and touring the children through art, music, composting, music and growing stations. Volunteers must enjoy working with children and interacting with teachers and chaperones. Other general volunteer work includes greeting visitors, helping out at events and workshops and welcoming The Flower Fields. Volunteers must be able to stand for periods of time and enjoy working with people outdoors. Training will take place in January and February, with volunteer shifts starting March 1st and running through May 14th. No experience is required and volunteer hours are flexible. Amics de la Biblioteca hosts new art exhibitions
The Friends of the Fallbrook Library is hosting two new free art exhibits starting Tuesday, January 17th and running through March 3rd. The mural art, “Black and White Only” in the community room is a monochromatic display. Art includes drawing, pen and ink, photography, printmaking, painting and textile art. “Anthropomorphic Congregations” in the Reading Yard features Helen Shafer Garcia’s ceramic creatures parading through the yard. Each creature tells a story. The reception to meet the artists is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday January 20. The library is located at 124 S. Mission Road.

The church organizes the collection of toiletries
Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church is sponsoring a toiletry drive for survivors of human trafficking from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 21 at 17010 Pomerado Rd. Throughout the month of January, the church has partnered with the Alabaster Jar Project and Generate Hope, two non-profit organizations that work to provide shelter and support to survivors of human trafficking.
