San Diego and Encinitas Sheriff’s firefighters were dispatched around 12:30 p.m. Jan. 1 to report an accident on Coastal Highway 101 at Encinitas Boulevard, according to a news release from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
An investigation revealed that D’Lima had been hit by a dark-colored sedan or pickup truck that seriously injured him at the scene.
D’Lima was pronounced dead at an area hospital despite lifesaving measures, according to deputies.
“David was an intelligent, responsible, kind, compassionate and loving human and friend. He always knew how to make everyone laugh and his smile encouraged many,” detailed a GoFundMe created in D’Lima’s honor.
Sheriffs said the vehicle that struck and killed D’Lima was described as a possible Chrysler or Dodge sedan or minivan with damage to the front driver’s side of the vehicle.
The suspect’s vehicle was last seen heading west on West B Street before leaving the crime scene, and D’Lima lying helpless in the roadway.
“David D’lima graduated from Canyon Crest Academy, where he excelled in basketball, academics, and brought endless joy to our high school community. After graduating from high school, he attended the ‘UCSB. David earned a degree in environmental science,’ D’ GoFundMe from Lima said.
